Mutabazi: Living, Learning, and Telling the Truth

Orange County sensation Mutabazi is back — and more focused than ever. The independent artist is currently preparing his debut album, Live and Learn, set for release in 2026. Years in the making, the project marks a defining chapter in his artistic and personal journey.

When speaking about the album, Mutabazi emphasizes gratitude and growth.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God, because without Him this album wouldn’t have been created,” he says. “Live and Learn reflects the addictions I’ve battled, the loss of both my parents, and my fight to overcome mental slavery.”

The album, which took nearly four years to complete, is deeply personal. Mutabazi explains that he intentionally took his time to ensure the music could truly resonate with listeners.

“Most of us are struggling with something,” he shares. “Social media often hides the reality of that struggle. I wanted to open the door to those truths and create something that could help people feel less alone.”

Known for radio-played singles such as “Good Times and Bad Times,” “What’s Poppin,” and “Self Sustained,” Mutabazi has emerged as one of California’s standout independent artists. His music has received airplay on Trend City Radio (California), Rhythm Rave Radio (United States), and WigWam Radio (London), among others.

Mutabazi first made his feature debut in 2016 with “Cream,” produced by Voltron Productions co-founder Nick Smith. Since then, he has consistently demonstrated persistence, growth, and versatility in his sound. His 2025 release “Undercover,” featuring Denver-based independent artist Ohso Menace, showcases his signature hook-driven style and club-ready energy.

Additional tracks currently available on all platforms include “Curious,” “Notice,” “Break Through,” and “Bow Down.”

For Mutabazi and Voltron Productions, the mission remains clear: grind relentlessly and create opportunities.

“This is the start of a new generation of music and talent,” Mutabazi states. “I’m excited for this next chapter.”

At its core, Live and Learn is a reflection of self-awareness, healing, and honesty — a reminder that understanding yourself is the first step toward showing up fully for others.

The album is coming soon.

Josephine Leone

Throughout musical history we’ve seen politics and music compliment each other, but also tear each other apart. It’s up to artists and their creative freedom to choose if they want to play into the political music scene, or leave themselves out all together. One Ottawa band who has embraced their distaste for many political events is Josephine Leone. This “groovy, grungy, gritty” rock n’ roll band released “Freedom Song” in 2022 and played it live at Bluesfest. While the track may have a laid-back energy, the message is powerful nonetheless.

‘Never before have there been so many protests happening all around the world. Innocent civilians oppressed by their own governments and stripped of their human rights, fuelled by propaganda designed to divide us and turn us all against each other.’

Their hope is that music will unite everyone together again amidst this chaos.

‘Freedom Song is about fighting back against this corruption and tyranny. It’s about uniting with each other to stand up against those who oppress us who want to control our lives. It’s about spreading hope to the world that we can, and we will, take back our freedom’. Now available on all streaming sites!

Join Josephine Leone and the band, along with Edison Rupert and Sophia Duhaime, at the Rainbow Bistro on April 21st, 2023, for a powerful event that will capture the attention of many. Doors open at 8:00pm, with pre-sale tickets available for $15 or $20 at the door. The link to purchase tickets for the show is provided at the bottom of this article.

Patience by Azym

Patience by Azym

The music community is ever-changing, and as of recently, the birth of streaming has rocked the industry. Now more than ever, artists are able to find success through singles rather than full albums. This is a more budget-friendly way to test the waters of the music business for new artists looking to evolve. One local artist who has begun this journey is AZYM, who’s first single dropped in 2020. Since then, this musician has been working on his portfolio of singles. The most recent release of his is “Patience”, which was dropped January, 2023. This drop was highly- anticipated, with AZYM revamping his whole Instagram with “Patience” being the focus.

“Patience” follows the energy of his current discography, with it being modern R&B. The beat is catchy and consistent coupled with AZYM’s smooth voice makes this perfect for easy-listening. To accompany the track, a music video was developed. He teased his fans by posting behind the scene clips on his social media and when the video was released, fans were pleased. The video has a no-frills authenticity which leaves the audience feeling closer to AZYM.

While the more personal foundation is great, the colour palette was the cherry on top. The moody colours guide the listener into how they should feel and vibe with this track. Furthermore, many clips of AZYM recording are sprinkled throughout. This technique is a pillar BPM Studio style, of which the editor and director of the video, Jayden Moyes, is a part of. This allows the audience to peek into the recording process and show them that AZYM loves his craft.

With this being AZYM’s first official video, we hope future ones continue to capture his audience.

Filmed and edited by BPM Studio.

Drive Review by Marlayah McLeod

Drive Review by Marlayah McLeod

DRIVE has gotta be my favourite music videos, and the fact that it’s created by an Ottawa video production company makes it even better. It’s great to see local talent team up with local businesses.

The video is so heat, especially since it has a mix of animated and realistic shots, the anime clips really add a touch of surrealism to the video. Elle pulled through with the vibes in the video.

I love how hyped up everything is, especially with the cars. It really gave me Fast and Furious vibes. The song makes me feel like I’m speeding down a highway or street racing, with a mix of being on cloud 9. Like the dopamine levels are super high up there.

The chorus gives me a mix of the song Bad Girls by M.I.A, and Tokyo Drift by Teriyaki Boyz. If you are looking for a banger to play in the club or to drive to, or to just get super hyped to, this is the song to put on!

Meet the Team - DJ Fids

    By Cole Aghar

Meet the Team - DJ Fids

Daniel Fidaoui, DJ Fids, Fidsyboy; just many of the many names you might have heard for the team’s resident sweetheart. A product of a few different areas around the city, this homegrown talent has done it all in the short number of years he’s been a part of the DJ community in Ottawa. Sharing a birthday with Canada itself, DJ Fids has never been one to shy from the spectacle. Once he got a taste and began to hone his craft, he started landing DJ gigs across the city. As FFA’s sponsored DJ he appeared at: The Common Eatery, The Senate Tavern, Babylon, PRVT PRPTY(who remembers these nights?) Rabbit Hole and even RBC’s Ottawa Bluesfest with local talent Black Iri$h. What a way to burst on the scene.

Since the first day he joined the FFA team, DJ Fids has been known for his creative ideas. They range from putting his face on a T-Shirt, to collaborating with the CASCO charity board to host a basketball tournament here at Lansdowne Park. CASCO is a charity organization within the Telfer School of Business at The University of Ottawa. Together we raised over $2000 to support the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario(CHEO) who CASCO raises funds for. The spectrum changed once the team got a taste of giving back to the community.

In the midst of the pandemic slowing the world down around him, DJ Fids did as we all had too; slow down with it. Taking a step back and spending time with his family, the boy never strayed far from the cause. As the world was put on pause, another passion of his started to come to fruition, Film Photography. Being present either on the tables or to support the culture, picking up cameras and burning through rolls of film became a hobby for him over the years.

As he dug through his archives and began to share his work via @fidspics on Instagram it became apparent he wanted to find a way to use his talent to give back to the community. Pairing with Y.A.A.C.A.N this year Danny has decided to invest his time into some non-profit charity work of his own. He is going to be selling prints of his film photography and taking 100% of proceeds to donate to different initiatives around the city. Given how hard the COVID-19 Pandemic has hit the homeless population across the country, the Ottawa Shelters are where he’s set his eyes on first.

Be on the lookout for where all this goes as he tries to navigate launching his own charitable initiative right here in Ottawa. We are unbelievably proud of this guy and will do nothing but support him any way we can. To learn more about this new project visit Daniel Fidaoui’s new website
